IKEA KALLAX shelving unit 77×77 cm: assembly instructions in 3D
Every step of IKEA's KALLAX 77×77 manual, built in 3D. Press play to watch a step, drag to look around, or switch to Drawing to see it in the manual's black-line style.
What is in the box
Seven boards: four thick outer boards (top, bottom and two sides) and three thin inner boards (one long shelf and two short dividers). The hardware bag holds 8 long screws, 14 dowels, 4 short screws, 4 glides, 2 wall brackets, 2 wall fittings, 2 bracket covers and a hex key.
- Build it with two people.
- Work on a rug or the flattened carton so the boards do not get scratched.
All 13 steps
- 1Screw the top to a side
Stand the top board and a side board on their back edges so they make an L. The two small holes near the end of the side board go at the bottom edge. Drive 2 long screws (104321) with the hex key (100001) from the outside of the top board, through its countersunk holes, into the end of the side.
- 2Fit the first short divider common mistake
Stand a short divider on one end and tap 2 dowels (101339) with a hammer into the outer holes in the top end. Push the divider, dowels first, into the holes in the middle of the top board, not the side board.
- 3Add the long shelf
Stand the long shelf on one end and tap 4 dowels into the top end, one in every hole. Slide the shelf along its length onto the holes in the middle of the side board. The free end of the divider now rests against the shelf.
- 4Dowels for the second divider
Tap 2 dowels into the outer holes in the middle of the other face of the long shelf.
- 5Fit the second short divider
Push the second short divider onto the 2 dowels. It lines up with the first one and makes the cross in the middle.
- 6Dowels for the last two boards
Tap 4 dowels into the free end of the long shelf, one in every hole, and 2 into the outer holes of the free end of the second divider.
- 7Add the second side common mistake
Push the second side board onto the 4 dowels in the end of the shelf, with its two small holes at the bottom edge like the first side. Its end meets the free end of the top board.
- 8Screw on the bottom
Push the bottom board onto the dowels in the second divider. Then drive the last 6 long screws with the hex key: 2 through the top into the new side, and 2 through the bottom into each side.
- 9Glides on, stand it up
Press the 4 glides (153550) onto the 4 screw heads in the bottom board. Then, with two people, lift the top end and stand the unit upright.
- 10Fit the wall brackets
In each top cube, screw a wall bracket (115753) to the side board at the back top corner, into the 2 small holes, with 2 short screws (100372) and a cross-head screwdriver.
- 11Mark the wall
Move the unit to its place against the wall. Hold the spirit level against the side to check that it stands straight, then mark the wall through the hole in each bracket with a pencil.
- 12Put in the wall screws common mistake
Move the unit away. At each mark, fit a wall screw and plug that suit your wall (they are not in the box). Use screws with a round head, not a countersunk one, and drive them with a flat screwdriver, leaving the heads standing out a little.
- 13Fix it to the wall common mistake
Push the unit back against the wall. Put a wall fitting (103693) on over each screw head through the round hole of its keyhole, slide it down so the screw sits in the slot, and tighten the screw with the flat screwdriver. Then push a cover (115754) over each bracket. Done.

About this guide
The steps, the part numbers, the counts and the order come from IKEA's assembly manual AA-2703327-1 (2026-03-24). The outer size, 76.5 × 39 × 76.5 cm, is IKEA's published size. Board thickness, hole positions and the bracket height are read off the drawings, so they are close, not measured. The 3D runs faster than real hands do.
Each shelf holds up to 13 kg and the top up to 25 kg, according to IKEA.
The official instructions are on IKEA's product page (PDF). If something here differs from the manual in your box, follow the manual.
