KALLAX 77×77 step 7 of 13: Add the second side

Push the second side board onto the 4 dowels in the end of the shelf, with its two small holes at the bottom edge like the first side. Its end meets the free end of the top board.

Tools: none, just your hands

Common mistake: putting the side on back to front. Each side board has 2 small holes near one long edge, at both ends. That edge goes at the bottom while you build, which is the back of the unit. Turned the other way the side still fits the dowels, but in step 10 the wall bracket has no holes to screw into at the back. The switch in the player shows what goes wrong.

About this guide

The steps, the part numbers, the counts and the order come from IKEA's assembly manual AA-2703327-1 (2026-03-24). The outer size, 76.5 × 39 × 76.5 cm, is IKEA's published size. Board thickness, hole positions and the bracket height are read off the drawings, so they are close, not measured. The 3D runs faster than real hands do.

Each shelf holds up to 13 kg and the top up to 25 kg, according to IKEA.

The official instructions are on IKEA's product page (PDF). If something here differs from the manual in your box, follow the manual.
