IKEA MICKE desk, white, 105×50 cm: interactive 3D assembly guide
Every step of IKEA's MICKE desk manual, built in 3D. Press play to watch a step, drag to look around, or switch to Drawing to see it in the manual's black-line style.
What is in the box
The top, the supporting leg and the metal frame for the left end; the cabinet’s two sides, its bottom, a fixed shelf, two loose shelves and its door; the back rail, the cable shelf and its front; and two drawers, each a front, two sides, a bottom and a back. The bags hold the cam bolts and three kinds of cam lock, dowels, runners, hinges with their mounting plates, shelf pins, glides, felt pads and the cable outlet.
- Work on a rug or the flattened carton: the desk is built lying on its back.
- The manual draws the cabinet on the left (pages 10 to 24) or on the right (pages 25 to 39): this guide builds it on the right.
All 35 steps
- 1Drawers: screw the cam bolts into the fronts
There are two drawers, a wide one and a small one: build both the same way. Lay each front face down on a rug and screw 2 cam bolts (118331) into the holes near its ends.
- 2Drawers: stand the sides on the fronts
Push a dowel (101344) into the front end of each drawer side and stand the sides on the front, onto the dowels and the cam bolts.
- 3Drawers: lock the sides
Put a cam lock (103114) into the round hole inside each side, arrow to the bolt, and turn it clockwise until the joint is tight. Not the other two kinds of cam lock: the manual crosses them out.
- 4Drawers: turn them over and slide in the bottoms
Turn each drawer upside down. Slide its bottom into the grooves from the back until it meets the front, the printed side up and the white side inside the drawer.
- 5Drawers: swing in the backs
Swing each drawer’s back in between the sides at the open end, over the bottom.
- 6Drawers: hammer in the fasteners
Hammer a plastic fastener (110519) through each side into the end of the back: two to each drawer.
- 7Drawers: put on the runners
Push a drawer runner (112482, the half with its wheel at the back) onto the bottom edge of each drawer side, which faces up now.
- 8Drawers: screw on the runners
Fix each runner with 2 screws (100365) through its flange into the side: 4 to each drawer. Not the longer 113287.
- 9Stand the cable shelf on the back rail
Lay the back rail on the rug where the desk will be built. Push 2 dowels (101344) into the holes along its middle and stand the cable shelf on them.
- 10Lay on the channel front
Push 2 dowels into the cable shelf’s top edge and lay the channel front on, the hole near its end at the top, as the manual’s pointing hand shows.
- 11Screw cam bolts into the supporting leg and the side
Lay the supporting leg and the cabinet’s left side on the rug and screw 4 cam bolts (118331) into each, near one end: 8 in all.
- 12Screw on the wide drawer’s runners
Screw a runner (112482, the half with its wheel at the front) to the supporting leg and one to the outer face of the cabinet side, each with 2 screws (100365), wheels at the front.
- 13Stand the leg and the side on the rail
Push a dowel into each end of the back rail. Stand the supporting leg on its left end and the cabinet side on its right end, onto the dowels and the cam bolts.
- 14Lock the cable channel
Put a cam lock (103430) into each of the 8 round holes near the ends of the three boards, arrow to the bolt, and turn each clockwise with a flat screwdriver until it is tight.
- 15Screw on the small drawer’s runners
Screw a runner (the half with its wheel at the front) inside the cabinet’s left side, and one inside its right side, lying on the rug: 2 screws (100365) each.
- 16Screw on the mounting plates
Screw the door’s two mounting plates (109221) inside the right side, near its front edge, with 2 screws (113287) each, as the manual shows: not 100365.
- 17Screw in the cam bolts for the bottom
Screw 2 cam bolts into each cabinet side, near the bottom end, for the bottom panel.
- 18Push the bottom onto the side
Push the cabinet’s bottom onto the left side’s cam bolts, its printed side down, as the manual shows.
- 19Lock the bottom to the left side
Put 2 cam locks (110126) into the bottom’s holes at the left side, arrow to the bolt, and turn them clockwise until tight.
- 20Put in the fixed shelf
Push 2 dowels into each end of the fixed shelf and push it onto the left side, its edged side to the front.
- 21Lay on the cabinet’s right side common mistake
Lay the right side on, its runner and mounting plates inside and at the top front, onto the dowels and cam bolts. Common mistake: The cabinet’s right side carries the door’s mounting plates near its front edge and the small drawer’s runner near its top. Laid on turned round, the plates end up at the back and low down, the runner at the bottom: the door has nothing to hang on and the drawer cannot run. Check the plates are at the front and the runner at the top before it goes on.
- 22Lock the bottom to the right side
Put 2 cam locks (110126) into the bottom’s holes at the right side and turn them clockwise until tight.
- 23Push the dowels in for the top
Push 2 dowels into the top end of the supporting leg and of each cabinet side: 6 in all.
- 24Screw on the metal frame
Hold the metal frame under the supporting leg and drive 3 long screws (100086) through it into the leg with the hex key (100092), slid into its handle (121030) for grip.
- 25Screw the cam bolts into the top
Lay the top upside down on the rug and screw 6 cam bolts (118331) into the holes near its ends and in the middle.
- 26Fit the top
With two people, stand the top on its back edge and push it onto the top end of the desk, its cam bolts and the dowels into their holes, the cable outlet’s hole towards the back.
- 27Lock the top
Put a cam lock (110126) into each of the 6 round holes just under the top, arrow to the bolt, and turn each clockwise until it is tight.
- 28Press the glides into the cabinet
Press 4 glides (153549) into the holes in the bottom edges of the cabinet’s sides.
- 29Stick felt pads under the frame
Stick a felt pad (10081375) under each foot of the metal frame. Not the round pads: the manual crosses them out here.
- 30Stand it up and put the drawers in
With two people, stand the desk up and move it to where it will stay. Set each drawer’s wheels into the runners, front tilted up, and push it in: the small one into the cabinet, the wide one under the top.
- 31Fit the hinges in the door
Lay the door face down. Press a hinge (109338) into each round hole inside it and fix it with 2 screws (100365).
- 32Hang the door
Hook each hinge onto its mounting plate and press it until it clicks; tighten the screw. Page 40 shows how its screws move the door up and down, in and out and sideways.
- 33Put in the shelves
Push 4 shelf pins (101514) into the holes inside the cabinet for each shelf, at the height you want, and lay the two shelves on them.
- 34Stick on the door’s bumpers
Stick 2 bumpers (104663) inside the door near its free edge, then shut it.
- 35Fit the cable outlet
Press the cable outlet (121304) into the hole in the top. Stick 2 bumper pads (112519) on the edges either side of the wide drawer, where the manual shows. Done.

Questions
Can the MICKE desk’s cabinet go on the left?
Yes. The manual draws both: pages 10 to 24 build it with the cabinet on the left and the metal frame on the right, pages 25 to 39 the other way round, as this guide does.
Which cam lock goes where?
MICKE has three kinds. 103114 goes in the drawers, 103430 in the cable channel’s boards, and 110126 in the cabinet’s bottom and under the top. Each step of the manual shows the right one with the others crossed out.
Why is the desk built lying on its back?
So the boards can be stood on their edges and locked on the floor. It is stood up only when the top and the frame are on, before the drawers and the door go in.
What tools do I need?
A cross-head screwdriver, a flat screwdriver and a hammer, as the manual shows. The hex key and its handle for the frame’s screws are in the box.
How much can the MICKE desk hold?
IKEA gives 50 kg for the desk and 8 kg for each shelf.

About this guide
The steps, the part numbers, the counts and the order come from IKEA's assembly manual AA-476615-12 (2024-04-30). The outer size, 105 × 50 × 75 cm, is IKEA's published size. The overall size is IKEA’s; the boards’ thicknesses, the cabinet’s width and the hole positions are read off the manual’s drawings, so they are close, not measured. The 3D runs faster than real hands do.
IKEA gives the desk’s maximum load as 50 kg, and 8 kg for each shelf.
The manufacturer's instructions are on IKEA's product page (PDF). If something here differs from the manual in your box, follow the manual.
The 3D models, drawings and text are our own. IKEA and MICKE are named only to say which product this guide is for.
