IKEA KNAGGLIG box, pine, 46×31×25 cm: interactive 3D assembly guide
Every step of IKEA's KNAGGLIG box 46×31×25 manual, built in 3D. Press play to watch a step, drag to look around, or switch to Drawing to see it in the manual's black-line style.
What is in the box
Two long sides, each three pine boards nailed to two corner posts; the bottom, four slats on two battens; six end boards, two of them with a hand-hold; 4 long screws (108363) and 24 screws (108560). You need two cross-head screwdrivers: a larger one for the long screws and a smaller one for the others.
- Use the screwdrivers by hand: the manual crosses out a drill for both kinds of screw.
All 9 steps
- 1Stand the bottom against a long side
Lay a long side flat, its corner posts up. Stand the bottom on its long edge against the lower ends of the posts, its battens facing out, and push it home.
- 2Screw the bottom to the first side
With the larger cross-head screwdriver, drive a long screw (108363) through the hole at the end of each batten into the post behind it: 2 screws.
- 3Turn it over and add the other long side
Turn the two over, so the bottom is on top and the long side stands under its front edge. Set the other long side under the bottom’s back edge, its posts towards the bottom, and push it in until the posts’ ends are under the battens.
- 4Screw the bottom to the second side
Drive a long screw (108363) down through the other end of each batten into the post under it: 2 screws.
- 5Screw two end boards to one end common mistake
Stand the box on one end. Lay an end board without a hand-hold across the top next to the bottom, flush with the outside of both long sides, and screw it to the corner posts with 4 screws (108560) and the smaller screwdriver. Lay the second one next to it the same way: 8 screws. Common mistake: Before you drive an end board’s screws, line both its ends up with the outside of the long sides, as the manual shows on pages 5 and 7. A board set down a little to one side is screwed on that way: one end sits back and leaves a step at the corner, and the other end sticks out past the other side.
- 6Screw on the end’s handle board
Lay a board with a hand-hold across the top at the box’s open edge, its hand-hold towards the other boards and flush with the sides, and screw it on with 4 screws (108560).
- 7Screw two end boards to the other end
Turn the box over onto the end you have just finished. Screw two end boards without a hand-hold across the top the same way, next to the bottom first, each flush with both sides and fixed with 4 screws (108560): 8 screws.
- 8Screw on the other handle board
Lay the second board with a hand-hold across the top at the open edge, flush with the sides, and screw it on with 4 screws (108560).
- 9Stand the box on its feet
Stand the box the right way up, on the battens under its bottom. Do not stand on it: the manual warns against that.

Tools you need
- Cross-head screwdriver · Not in the box: the manual asks for two. This, the larger, drives the 4 long screws (108363).
- Small cross-head screwdriver · Not in the box: the smaller of the two the manual asks for, for the 24 screws (108560) that hold the end boards.
Questions
What tools do I need for the KNAGGLIG box?
Two cross-head screwdrivers, as the manual shows: a larger one for the 4 long screws (108363) and a smaller one for the 24 screws (108560).
Can I use a drill?
The manual crosses out a drill for both kinds of screw: turn them in by hand. In soft pine a drill easily drives a screw too far.
An end board does not line up. What do I do?
Take its screws out, push the board until both its ends are flush with the outside of the long sides, and screw it on again.
Can I hang the box on a wall or stand on it?
No. IKEA says it is not made to hang on a wall, and the manual warns against standing on it.
Can I treat the wood?
Yes: it comes untreated, and IKEA says it can be treated with oil or a glazing paint.
Safety
From the manual: do not stand on the box. IKEA says it is not to be hung on a wall.
About this guide
The steps, the part numbers, the counts and the order come from IKEA's assembly manual AA-1159337-8 (2025-10-03). The outer size, 46 × 31 × 25 cm, is IKEA's published size. The box’s size is IKEA’s; the boards’ thickness, the posts, the battens, the slats and the hand-hold are read off the manual’s drawings and IKEA’s photos, so they are close, not measured. The 3D runs faster than real hands do.
The manufacturer's instructions are on IKEA's product page (PDF). If something here differs from the manual in your box, follow the manual.
The 3D models, drawings and text are our own. IKEA and KNAGGLIG are named only to say which product this guide is for.
