IKEA KURA reversible bed, white/pine, 90×200 cm: interactive 3D assembly guide

Every step of assembling the IKEA KURA bed, built in 3D. Press play to watch a step, drag to look around, or switch to Drawing to see it in clean black lines.

What is in the box

Four solid pine corner posts, four end rails, four 200 cm long rails, four reversible infill panels, a ladder upright post, three pine ladder steps, two slat support rails, and eight bed base slats. The hardware bags hold 24 wooden dowels (101350), 16 barrel nuts (100514), 16 corner bolts (122606), 8 countersunk hex screws (100229), 16 slat screws (100365), and the 4 mm Allen key (100001).

All 9 steps

  1. 1 Stand the 4 corner posts and fit the end-rail dowels and barrel nuts

Stand the four solid pine corner posts at the corners, push 8 wooden dowels (101350) into their inner faces, and insert 8 cylindrical barrel nuts (100514) into the cross-holes of the four end rails.

  2. 2 Assemble the headboard and footboard ends with reversible panels

Fit the left and right lower end rails onto the dowels, slide the two reversible white end panels down into the post grooves, and cap them with the left and right upper end rails.

  3. 3 Bolt the two bed ends and fit the long-rail dowels and barrel nuts

Drive 8 hex socket bolts (122606) through the corner posts into the end-rail barrel nuts with the Allen key (100001), then push 8 dowels (101350) into the posts and 8 barrel nuts (100514) into the four 200 cm long rails.

  4. 4 Fit the long rails and reversible back and front guard panels common mistake

Fit the back lower long rail, slide in the full-length back infill panel, and cap it with the back upper guard rail. Then fit the front lower long rail, lower the three-quarter front guard panel on the left, and fit the front upper guard rail. Common mistake: Installing the front upper guard rail with the ladder post holes at the wrong end blocks the built-in ladder.

  5. 5 Lock all 4 long rails with corner bolts

Drive the remaining 8 hex socket bolts (122606) through the outer faces of the corner posts into the 100514 barrel nuts inside the four long rails.

  6. 6 Build and bolt the 3-step front ladder

Push 8 wooden dowels (101350) into the ladder post and front-right post, fit the ladder upright post against the front panel edge, set the 3 pine ladder steps in place, and drive 8 countersunk hex screws (100229) with the Allen key.

  7. 7 Fit the slat support rails and lay the 8 safety bed slats

Set the back and front slat support rails along the inside of the lower long rails, then space the 8 solid pine bed base slats evenly across the 90×200 cm frame.

  8. 8 Screw down the 8 bed base slats

Drive 16 countersunk screws (100365)—two into each of the 8 bed base slats—to lock the slatted base and square the reversible frame.

  9. 9 Reversible frame orientation: low bed vs. high loft bed

With two adults lifting together, the symmetrical KURA frame flips 180° upside down to convert between a low bed for younger children and a high loft bed with a play den underneath.

Questions

How do you flip the IKEA KURA bed from a low bed to a high loft bed?

You do not need to disassemble the frame: remove the mattress and bedding, move the slatted bed base to the upper support ledges if needed, and with two adults lift and turn the entire 209×99×116 cm frame 180° upside down.

Why does every KURA rail joint use both a wooden dowel (101350) and a bolt (122606)?

The M6 bolt (122606) and barrel nut (100514) clamp the joint tightly together, while the adjacent 8×30 mm wooden dowel (101350) stops the rail or ladder step from rotating around the single bolt when the bed is flipped.

Can the KURA ladder be mounted on either the left or right side?

Yes—by rotating the front lower and upper long rails during Step 4 so the ladder post holes sit at the left-front or right-front end, you can place the ladder opening at either end of the bed.

What is the maximum mattress thickness for the KURA reversible bed?

IKEA specifies a 90 × 200 cm mattress no thicker than 12 cm so that sufficient guardrail height remains above the mattress surface when used as a high loft bed.

Safety

High beds and the upper bed of bunk or loft beds are not suitable for children under 6 years due to the risk of injury from falls. Never use a mattress thicker than 12 cm, and always screw down all bed base slats.

About this guide

The part numbers and counts match IKEA's assembly instructions, so you can check each piece against your box. The outer size, 209 × 99 × 116 cm, is IKEA's published size. Built from the IKEA KURA reversible bed 90×200 cm assembly manual (AA-514660-12). The 3D runs faster than real hands do.

Takes a 90 × 200 cm mattress with a maximum thickness of 12 cm so the top of the mattress stays safely below the upper guardrail edge in loft-bed orientation.

The manufacturer's instructions are on IKEA's product page (PDF). If something here differs from the manual in your box, follow the manual.
