Questions
How do the IVAR side units go together?
Each side unit is two uprights and four rungs: push the rungs’ tenons into one upright’s slots, tap a wood dowel (10049370) into the hole over each joint with the hammer over the wooden block, then fit the other upright the same way.
Why does the IVAR box have a wooden block?
To tap the dowels home. Set the block on the dowel and hit the block: the hammer on the dowel itself dents the soft pine round the hole.
How is the IVAR cabinet held in the unit?
It rests on four cabinet holders (10095544) pushed into the uprights’ holes, two screws (100404) hold it to the front ones from below, and two more holders over it hold its top. Two brackets (102646) fix it to the wall.
Do the IVAR shelf pins all have to be at the same height?
Yes: count the holes, so each shelf’s four pins (101324) are level. A shelf on uneven pins sits crooked and does not click down onto them.
Safety
This unit must be fixed to the wall with the strap, and the cabinet with its brackets, so it cannot tip over if a child climbs on it or pulls at it. Screws and plugs for the wall are not in the boxes: choose ones that suit your wall.
About this guide
This is an independent 3D engineering guide modeled from physical hardware specifications and standard fastener part numbers so you can identify your pieces before building. The outer size, 89 × 50 × 179 cm, is IKEA's published size. The side units’ 178.5 × 50 cm, the shelves’ 83 × 50 × 1.8 cm, the cabinet’s 80 × 50 × 83 cm and the hardware’s sizes are IKEA’s; the uprights’ section, the rungs’ and the cabinet’s heights are our own estimates, so they are close, not measured. The 3D runs faster than real hands do.
The manufacturer's instructions are on IKEA's product page (PDF). If something here differs from the manual in your box, follow the manual.
The 3D models, drawings and text are our own. IKEA and IVAR are named only to say which product this guide is for.
