What is in the box
For the pull-out base: a long board, a front board with three openings, two end boards, four rails, two slat holders and 13 short slats. For the frame: a back panel, two ends, a slat holder, a front rail, two side rails, 12 long slats, a top rail and two arm caps. For each of the three drawers: a front, two sides, a bottom and a back. Four bags of hardware, three sets of runners and a hex key.
- Build it with two people: the base and the frame are turned over and the base is pushed in under the frame.
- Work on a rug, so nothing gets scratched, and keep the 13 short slats apart from the 12 long ones.
All 44 steps
- 1Screw the castors under the rails
Lay the four rails upside down. Hold a castor (111401) over the holes near each end of each rail and fix it with 2 screws (109049): 8 castors, 16 screws.
- 2Screw on the runners marked CR
Turn the rails the right way up. Screw a runner marked CR to the left side of three rails, each with 3 screws (100347). Not the longer 116894: the manual crosses it out.
- 3Screw on the runners marked CL
Screw a runner marked CL to the right side of three rails, each with 3 screws (100347), so that each pair of rails facing each other has a CR and a CL.
- 4Push the dowels into the rails
Push 2 dowels (101350) into each end of each rail: 16 in all.
- 5Lay the slat holder on the long board
Lay the long board on a rug, inside up. Lay a slat holder (112975) along it, its flange out over the edge, and screw it on at each end (116894).
- 6Screw the slat holder down
Drive 6 more screws (116894) through the slat holder’s oval holes into the long board.
- 7Screw the cam bolts into the long board
Screw 8 cam bolts (118331) into the long board: one for each rail and two for each end board.
- 8Stand the rails on the long board
Stand the four rails on the long board, onto their dowels and cam bolts, their castors to the outside of the long board.
- 9Lock the rails to the long board
Put a cam lock (103430) into the round hole at the foot of each rail, arrow to the bolt, and turn it clockwise with a flat screwdriver until it is tight.
- 10Push the dowels into the end boards
Push 3 dowels (101350) into each long edge of the two end boards: 12 in all.
- 11Stand the end boards on the long board
Stand an end board on each end of the long board, onto its dowels and cam bolts.
- 12Lock the end boards
Put a cam lock (103430) into each of the 4 round holes at the end boards’ feet and turn it clockwise until it is tight.
- 13Lay the slat holder on the front board
Lay the front board face down on the rug. Lay the other slat holder (112975) along it and screw it on at each end (116894).
- 14Screw the slat holder down
Drive 6 more screws (116894) through the slat holder into the front board.
- 15Screw the cam bolts into the front board
Screw 8 cam bolts (118331) into the front board.
- 16Lay the front board on top
Turn the front board over and lay it on top of the rails and end boards, onto their dowels, its cam bolts into their holes.
- 17Lock the end boards to the front board
Put a cam lock (103430) into each of the 4 round holes at the end boards’ tops and turn it clockwise until it is tight.
- 18Lock the rails to the front board
Put a cam lock into the round hole at the top of each rail and turn it clockwise until it is tight.
- 19Screw in three short slats
The base takes the 13 short slats; the 14 longer ones are for the frame. Lay a short slat across the slat holders at each end and one in the middle, and screw each to both holders from inside (116894): 6 screws.
- 20Push the pins into the other slats
Push 2 pins (110525) into the holes near the ends of each of the other ten short slats: 20 pins.
- 21Turn the base over and lay on the slats common mistake
With two people, turn the base over onto its castors. Lay the ten slats on, their pins into the holes in the slat holders. Common mistake: The base takes the 13 short slats; the 12 long ones are the bed’s, and the manual crosses them out here. A long slat is too long to drop in between the slat holders: it sits on top of the boards, higher than the others, and sticks out at the front and the back.
- 22Lay the slat holder on the back panel
Now the frame. Lay the back panel face up on the rug. Lay the slat holder (112975) along it, near its bottom edge, and screw it on at each end (116894).
- 23Screw the slat holder down
Drive 6 more screws (116894) through the slat holder into the back panel.
- 24Push the dowels into the ends
Lay the two ends flat, inside up, and push 3 dowels (101350) into each one’s back leg: 6 in all.
- 25Bolt the ends to the back panel
Stand the back panel on its top edge, back towards you. Stand the ends against it upside down, onto the dowels. Push a barrel nut (108903) into each of the 4 round holes in the back of the panel, its slot in line with the bolt, and turn a long bolt (105236) through each leg into it with the hex key (100001).
- 26Press the feet into the legs
Press a foot (153552) into the hole in the foot of each leg.
- 27Screw on the front rail
Lay the front rail (112977) between the front legs. At each end, fix a clip (130485) to the leg and screw the rail on: 2 screws (109060) at each end, not the 116894.
- 28Turn it over and fit the stop plates
With two people, turn the frame over onto its feet. Take the 2 narrow side rails, not the 12 slats, and screw a stop plate (123660) to the end of each with 2 screws (116894).
- 29Screw the side rails in
Lay a side rail along the inside of each end, from the slat holder to the front rail, its stop plate at the front, hanging down. Screw it up through the slat holder and down into the front rail (116894).
- 30Push a pin into each slat
Push a pin (110525) into the hole near one end of each of the 12 long slats.
- 31Lay the slats on and screw them down
Lay the 12 slats across the frame, each pin into a hole in the slat holder at the back, and screw each front end onto the front rail (116894). Do not sit on it yet: the base is not in.
- 32Push the base in
With two people, roll the base up to the front of the frame, back first. Lift the frame a little at the front, so the stop plates clear the base, and push the base in under it; let the frame down.
- 33Tap in the studs
Tap 17 studs (104012) halfway into the holes in the top edges with a hammer: 9 along the back panel and 4 on each end.
- 34Press on the top rail
Press the top rail down onto the studs along the back panel.
- 35Press on the arm caps
With two people, press an arm cap down onto the studs on each end.
- 36Drawers: screw in the cam bolts
Now the three drawers, one step at a time for all three. Lay each drawer’s front and back flat, inside up, and screw 4 cam bolts (118331) into each: 24 in all.
- 37Drawers: stand the sides on the fronts
Stand two sides on each front, over its cam bolts, their grooves facing in, as the manual’s hand shows.
- 38Drawers: lock the sides to the fronts
Put a cam lock (103114) into each of the 4 round holes at the sides’ feet, arrow to the bolt, and turn it clockwise with a flat screwdriver until it is tight.
- 39Drawers: slide in the bottoms
Slide a bottom down into the grooves of each drawer, painted side in, until it reaches the front.
- 40Drawers: put on the backs
Turn each back over and lay it on top of the sides, its cam bolts into their holes.
- 41Drawers: lock the backs
Put a cam lock (103114) into each of the 4 round holes at the top of the sides and turn it clockwise until it is tight.
- 42Drawers: screw on the runners
Turn each drawer the right way up. Screw a runner marked DL under the foot of its left side and one marked DR under its right, each with 3 screws (100347).
- 43Drawers: fit the knobs
Stand each drawer on its back. Hold a knob (117615) on the middle of the front and screw its bolt (119976) into it from inside.
- 44Slide the drawers in
Set each drawer’s runners into the base’s runners and push it in. Done: the base pulls out to make a double bed.

Questions
How do I tell the slats apart?
There are 13 short slats for the pull-out base, 12 long ones for the bed and 2 narrow side rails. The manual shows each set with the other crossed out: if a slat does not drop in between the slat holders, it is the wrong length.
Why does the frame have to be lifted to push the base in?
The stop plates on the front ends of the side rails hang down inside the base, behind its front board. Lift the front of the frame a little so they clear the base, push it in, and let the frame down.
How does it become a double bed?
Pull the base out: IKEA says it then makes a 160 × 200 cm bed with two 80 × 200 mattresses. It is not to be used as two single beds.
What tools do I need?
A flat screwdriver for the cam locks, a cross-head screwdriver for the screws and cam bolts, and a hammer for the studs, as the manual shows. The hex key for the long bolts is in the box.
Which screws go where?
The short 100347 screws are for the runners only; the 116894 screws hold the slat holders, the stop plates, the side rails and the slats; the 109060 screws hold the front rail. Each page shows the one to use with the other crossed out.
Safety
From the manual: never stand on an open drawer, and do not sit on the frame before the base is in. Stand the whole day-bed on a rug or off it, not half on. IKEA says it is not to be used as two single beds; re-tighten the screws and fittings when needed.
About this guide
The steps, the part numbers, the counts and the order come from IKEA's assembly manual AA-1913852-7 (2018-07-12). The outer size, 209 × 89 × 83 cm, is IKEA's published size. The day-bed’s size and the drawers’ insides are IKEA’s; the boards’ thickness, the rails, the slats and where the holes are, are read off the manual’s drawings, so they are close, not measured. The 3D runs faster than real hands do.
IKEA says it takes two 80 × 200 cm mattresses; pulled out it is a 160 × 200 cm double bed, and it is not to be used as two single beds. The drawers are 55 × 70 × 20 cm inside.
The manufacturer's instructions are on IKEA's product page (PDF). If something here differs from the manual in your box, follow the manual.
The 3D models, drawings and text are our own. IKEA and HEMNES are named only to say which product this guide is for.
