What is in the box

Two steel mesh side panels, front and back bottom rails, a perforated steel bottom panel, four middle posts, two front corner gussets, a top steel frame, three mesh doors, and a solid pine top panel and middle shelf. The hardware bags hold 42 short M5 screws (107616), 16 wood screws (152497), 8 long M5 screws (139212), 4 shoulder screws (152527) with 4 sleeve nuts (152526), 8 adjustable feet (122158), 6 butt hinges (153334), 3 magnetic catches (139578) with 3 M4 screws (114755), and 10 self-adhesive cable clips (123742). Wall screws and plugs are not included.

All 28 steps

  1. 1 Set the right side panel and fit the back rail

Lay the right side panel on its back edge on the rug and slot the right end of the back bottom rail into the tab near its lower corner.

  2. 2 Screw the back rail to the right side panel

Drive one M5 × 12 mm machine screw (107616) through the tab inside the right side panel into the back rail.

  3. 3 Slide the bottom panel into the right side panel

Bring the perforated steel bottom panel in beside the back rail and seat its right edge on the lower rung tab of the right side panel.

  4. 4 Screw the bottom panel to the right side panel

Secure the right end of the bottom panel to the right side panel with one M5 × 12 mm machine screw (107616).

  5. 5 Fit the front rail along the bottom panel

Set the front bottom rail along the upper front edge of the bottom panel, slotting its right end into the front leg of the right side panel.

  6. 6 Screw the front rail to the right side panel

Drive one M5 × 12 mm machine screw (107616) through the front rail tab into the right side panel.

  7. 7 Fit the left side panel onto the rails and bottom panel

Bring the left side panel onto the left ends of the back rail, bottom panel and front rail so all three sit flush against its inside tabs.

  8. 8 Screw the left side panel to the rails and bottom panel

Fix the back rail, bottom panel and front rail to the left side panel with three M5 × 12 mm machine screws (107616).

  9. 9 Screw the two corner gussets to the bottom panel

Place a corner gusset inside each front bottom corner and fix each one to the bottom panel with two M5 × 12 mm screws (107616), four in total.

  10. 10 Join the corner gussets to the front legs with sleeve nuts

Push two sleeve nuts (152526) into the outside of each front leg and thread two shoulder screws (152527) through the corner gusset from inside, holding the sleeve nut with a second screwdriver. Leave these four screws slightly loose until the doors are hung in step 26.

  11. 11 Screw four adjustable feet into the corner legs

Thread an adjustable foot (122158) by hand into the bottom of all four corner legs.

  12. 12 Attach the front-right middle post common mistake

Set the front-right middle post on the front rail with its four door-hinge holes along the side and its strike plate at the top end, then drive two M5 × 30 mm long screws (139212) through its lower holes into the rail and bottom panel. Common mistake: The front-right middle post has two close-spaced holes near its foot for the long screws into the front rail, and a strike plate at its top end for the right-hand door’s magnet. Turned end for end, the strike plate sits at the bottom and the middle door’s hinges will not line up.

  13. 13 Attach the front-left middle post

Place the front-left middle post on the front rail with its two top strike plates at the upper end and fix its lower end with two M5 × 30 mm long screws (139212).

  14. 14 Turn the frame over and attach the two back middle posts

With a helper, turn the frame over onto its front. Lay the two back middle posts in place on the back rail and fix each one with two M5 × 30 mm long screws (139212), four in total.

  15. 15 Screw four adjustable feet into the middle posts

Screw the remaining four adjustable feet (122158) by hand into the bottom ends of the four middle posts.

  16. 16 Stand the frame upright and lower in the middle shelf

Stand the frame upright on its eight feet. Angle the solid pine middle shelf in through the open top and lower it flat onto the eight support tabs, with its four notches fitting around the middle posts.

  17. 17 Screw the middle shelf to the eight support tabs

From underneath the middle shelf, drive eight Ø 4.5 × 12 mm wood screws (152497) up through the tabs on the side panels and middle posts into the pine board.

  18. 18 Lay the top steel frame onto the upside-down top panel common mistake

Lay the solid pine top panel face down on the rug and set the top steel frame on its underside, making sure the two wall brackets on the frame sit along the back edge. Common mistake: The top steel frame has two middle-post lugs and two wall brackets along its back bar, while its front bar is plain above the three doors. Laid on the top panel the wrong way round, the wall brackets stick out at the front edge and the back middle posts have nothing to screw into.

  19. 19 Screw the top frame to the top panel

Drive eight Ø 4.5 × 12 mm wood screws (152497) through the tabs on the top steel frame into the underside of the solid pine top panel.

  20. 20 Lift the assembled top onto the frame

With two people, turn the assembled top right-side up and lower it onto the bench so the six downward lugs on the top frame slip inside the corner legs and back middle posts.

  21. 21 Screw the top frame lugs to the posts

Fix the top frame to the two side panels and two back middle posts from inside the upper bay with six M5 × 12 mm machine screws (107616).

  22. 22 Move the bench to the wall and set the wall brackets

Move the bench into place against the wall. Push the two wall brackets at the back of the top frame back against the wall and lock them from underneath with two M5 × 12 mm screws (107616).

  23. 23 Level the bench on its adjustable feet

Check the top with a spirit level and turn the eight adjustable feet in or out until the bench stands level and steady.

  24. 24 Screw the six butt hinges onto the three mesh doors

Lay the three mesh doors face down. Place two butt hinges (153334) on each door and fix each hinge leaf to the door with two M5 × 12 mm screws (107616), twelve screws in total.

  25. 25 Hang the three mesh doors on the front of the frame

Hold each mesh door up to the front of the bench and screw its two hinges to the frame with four M5 × 12 mm screws (107616) per door: the left door onto the left side panel, the middle door onto the front-right middle post, and the right door onto the right side panel.

  26. 26 Fit the three magnetic catches and tighten the corner screws

Screw a magnetic catch (139578) inside the top corner of each door with an M4 × 12 mm screw (114755), tighten the four front corner shoulder screws (152527) from step 10, and close the three doors against their strike plates.

  27. 27 Anchor the bench to the wall common mistake

Drive wall screws suited to your wall through the two wall brackets under the back of the top frame so the bench cannot tip forward. Common mistake: Even a low TV bench can tip forward if someone leans on an open door or pulls on equipment at the front. Always fix both rear brackets under the top frame to the wall with screws and plugs suited to your wall.

  28. 28 Press on the ten self-adhesive cable clips

Peel the backing off the ten cable clips (123742) and press five along the lower half and five along the upper half of the back middle post to route your TV and console cables neatly.

Questions

What tools do I need to assemble the FJÄLLBO TV bench?

You need a cross-head (Pozidriv PZ2) screwdriver for all machine and wood screws, a second screwdriver to hold the four barrel sleeve nuts (152526) from outside the front legs in step 10, a spirit level to level the eight adjustable feet, and wall screws and plugs suited to your wall.

Why are the four front corner screws left slightly loose in step 10?

Leaving the four shoulder screws (152527) and sleeve nuts (152526) slightly loose while you fit the middle posts, wooden shelf and top panel lets the steel frame settle square on its adjustable feet before you tighten them fully in step 26.

Do remote controls work through the FJÄLLBO mesh doors?

Yes. The three doors and both side panels use an open diamond steel mesh that lets remote-control signals pass through while keeping consoles and receivers ventilated.

How much weight can the FJÄLLBO TV bench hold?

IKEA gives a maximum load of 30 kg on the solid pine top panel and 53 kg on the middle shelf.

Safety

Furniture that tips over can cause serious or fatal crushing injuries. IKEA says this TV bench must be fixed to the wall using the two brackets at the back of the top frame. Use screws and plugs that suit your wall, and ask a professional if you are not sure.
