IKEA BROR work bench, black/pine plywood, 110×55 cm: interactive 3D assembly guide

Every step of assembling the IKEA BROR work bench 110×55, built in 3D. Press play to watch a step, drag to look around, or switch to Drawing to see it in clean black lines.

What is in the box

Seven parts: the pine plywood worktop on its steel rim, two black steel shelves and four L-shaped steel posts. The hardware bag holds 24 screws (10042206), 12 corner brackets (10050776), 4 plastic feet (192249) and a 4 mm hex key (100092).

All 6 steps

  1. 1 Push the feet onto the posts

Lay the 4 posts on the floor. Check the two ends of each post: one end has rounded corners and a pair of holes close to the edge, while the other end is cut square. Push a plastic foot (192249) firmly onto the square-cut bottom end of each post.

  2. 2 Bolt the first post to the worktop

Lay the worktop upside down on the rug. Stand the first post at a back corner with its rounded end down inside the corner of the worktop and its foot pointing up. Hold a corner bracket (10050776) inside the corner of the steel rim and drive 2 screws (10042206) from the outside through the post and the rim into the bracket with the hex key (100092).

  3. 3 Bolt on the other three posts

Stand the other 3 posts at the remaining corners of the upturned worktop, each with its rounded end down and its foot pointing up. At each corner, hold a corner bracket (10050776) inside the rim and drive 2 screws (10042206) from the outside with the hex key (100092).

  4. 4 Fit the upper shelf common mistake

Lower the first steel shelf upside down between the 4 posts to the second pair of holes from the worktop (the very next pair of holes above the worktop rim). Hold a corner bracket (10050776) inside each corner and drive 2 screws (10042206) through the post and shelf rim at all four corners with the hex key. Common mistake: Because the work bench is built upside down on its worktop, both steel shelves must go in upside down as well, with their flat deck facing down towards the worktop and their open folded rim facing up towards the feet. Put a shelf in the right way up now and its holes sit out of line with the brackets, and once you turn the bench over in step 6 the shelf sits upside down like a tray.

  5. 5 Fit the lower shelf

Lower the second steel shelf upside down between the 4 posts, skipping one pair of holes so it sits at the fourth pair of holes from the worktop (one pair of holes down from the feet). Hold a corner bracket (10050776) inside each corner and drive 2 screws (10042206) at all four corners with the hex key.

  6. 6 Stand it up, level it and tighten all 24 screws

With two people, turn the work bench the right way up and stand it on its feet. Hold a spirit level upright against a post and press the side until the frame stands plumb and square, then tighten all 24 screws firmly with the hex key (100092). Done.

Questions

Which end of the BROR posts do the plastic feet go on?

Each L-shaped post has one end with rounded corners and a pair of screw holes close to the edge, and one square-cut end. Push the plastic feet (192249) onto the square-cut bottom ends in step 1, and put the rounded ends against the worktop in steps 2 and 3.

Why should I wait until the end to tighten the 24 screws fully?

Starting the screws slightly loose lets both steel shelves slip easily between the four posts and lets you press the standing frame plumb against a spirit level in step 6 before locking the 12 corner brackets rigid.

Can I set the two steel shelves at different heights?

Yes. Each post has five pairs of screw holes spaced 20 cm apart. The top pair holds the worktop, and you can bolt the two steel shelves into any of the four lower pairs of holes to suit what you store.

What tools do I need to assemble the BROR work bench?

Only the 4 mm hex key (100092) included in the box and a spirit level to check that the posts stand vertical before your final tightening. You do not need a screwdriver.

Safety

Only for indoor use. Check the screws regularly and re-tighten them when necessary so the frame stays rigid under load.

About this guide

This is an independent 3D engineering guide modeled from physical hardware specifications and standard fastener part numbers so you can identify your pieces before building. The outer size, 110 × 55 × 88 cm, is IKEA's published size. Outer size (110 × 55 × 88 cm), shelf spacings (20 and 40 cm), package weight (24.5 kg) and hardware sizes come from IKEA’s product and spare-parts data; sheet-metal thickness and flange widths are read from the assembly drawings. The 3D runs faster than real hands do.

Holds up to 60 kg, according to IKEA, and is tested for public use (EN 16121). Only for indoor use.

The manufacturer's instructions are on IKEA's product page (PDF). If something here differs from the manual in your box, follow the manual.
