What is in the box
Two side panels, a top, two back rails and a plinth; for the two compartments, two fronts, four plastic sides, two back boards, two narrow boards and two shelves. Hardware: 10 cam screws (118331), 10 cam locks (118224), 10 dowels (101350), 4 pivots (10097027) with 4 screws (100347), 4 glides (107849), 16 screws (112792), 12 screws (109535), 4 stop rings (10095065), and 2 wall screws (109048) with 2 plugs (121714) and 2 washers (100823).
- The cabinet must be fixed to the wall: the screws and plugs in the box suit most walls; in solid wood use the screws alone.
All 23 steps
- 1Screw the cam screws in
With the panels on a rug, screw 10 cam screws (118331) into the holes in the two sides and the top’s underside, all the way in.
- 2Fit the compartments’ pivots
Tap a pivot (10097027) into each of the four holes inside the sides with a hammer, its peg out, and screw its plate down with a screw (100347).
- 3Stand the back rails on the right side
Lay the right side on the rug, its inside up. Push a dowel (101350) into each end of the two back rails and stand them on the side, in its back corners.
- 4Stand the plinth on the side
Push a dowel into each end of the plinth and stand it on the side at the front, behind the curve at its foot.
- 5Lock the rails to the right side
Push a cam lock (118224) into the hole near the lower end of each rail and turn it with the flat screwdriver until it grips the cam screw: 3 cam locks.
- 6Lower the left side on
Lower the left side onto the rails’ upper ends, its dowels and cam screws into their holes.
- 7Lock the rails to the left side
Push a cam lock into each rail’s other end and turn it until it grips the left side’s cam screw: 3 cam locks.
- 8Turn the frame upside down
Turn the frame over so it stands upside down, its open top end down.
- 9Lower the frame onto the top
Lay the top on the rug, its cam screws up, and push 4 dowels into it. Lower the frame onto it, the sides’ ends onto the dowels and cam screws.
- 10Lock the top on
Push a cam lock into the hole near each side’s top end, now at the bottom, and turn it until it grips the top’s cam screw: 4 cam locks.
- 11Hammer in the glides and stand it up
Tap a glide (107849) into the foot of each side at each corner with the hammer, then stand the cabinet up the right way.
- 12Screw the plastic sides to the fronts
Lay a compartment front face down and screw a plastic side to each end of its back with three screws (112792), the sides’ curves towards the front’s top: 2 compartments, 12 screws.
- 13Slide in the back boards
Of the three kinds of board, take the widest: slide one into each compartment’s plastic sides, between their upper hooks.
- 14Screw the back boards on
Drive a screw (109535) through each plastic side into the end of the back board: 2 a compartment.
- 15Slide in the narrow boards
Now take the narrowest board: slide one into each compartment’s plastic sides, along the foot of the front.
- 16Screw the narrow boards on
Drive a screw (109535) through each plastic side into the end of the narrow board: 2 a compartment.
- 17Fit the upper compartment
Lay the cabinet on its back. Lower the upper compartment in, front up, so the slot at the foot of each plastic side goes over its pivot’s peg: pushed right on, not resting on it.
- 18Fit the lower compartment
Lower the lower compartment in the same way, its plastic sides’ slots over the lower pivots.
- 19Check the compartments sit right
Lift the cabinet a little at the top and check that each compartment’s foot sits down at the front, as the manual’s picture shows.
- 20Screw on the stop rings
Screw a stop ring (10095065) inside each side under each compartment’s foot with a screw (112792), by hand: the manual crosses out a drill. Stand the cabinet up.
- 21Screw it to the wall common mistake
Move the cabinet against the wall and tilt the upper compartment open. Drive the two wall screws (109048), each through a washer (100823), through the top back rail into the wall, with plugs (121714) in a solid or hollow wall. Common mistake: The manual warns, on its first pages and again here, that furniture can tip over and cause serious or fatal injury. BISSA is fixed to the wall through its top back rail, with the screws in the box or ones that suit your wall.
- 22Slide in the shelves
Tilt the lower compartment open too. Slide a shelf into one of the three pairs of slots in each compartment’s plastic sides, as your shoes need, and screw it through each plastic side (109535).
- 23Shut the compartments
Tilt both compartments shut.

Questions
How many pairs of shoes does BISSA hold?
IKEA says about 8 pairs. The shelves can be moved or taken out to suit your shoes.
Do I have to fix BISSA to the wall?
Yes. IKEA says it must be fixed to the wall: two screws go through the top back rail. The screws, plugs and washers in the box suit most solid and hollow walls; in solid wood use the screws without plugs, and if you are not sure, ask a professional.
Which board goes where in a compartment?
The widest board slides in first, between the plastic sides’ upper hooks; the narrowest goes along the foot of the front; the third is the shelf, which goes in last, at the height your shoes need.
A compartment does not sit right. What do I do?
Check that the slot at the foot of each of its plastic sides is pushed right over its pivot’s peg, not resting on top of it, as page 16 of the manual shows.
Safety
From the manual: furniture can tip over and cause serious or fatal crushing injuries. Always fix BISSA to the wall, keep heavy things in the lower compartment, and never let children climb on it or hang on its compartments.
About this guide
The steps, the part numbers, the counts and the order come from IKEA's assembly manual AA-2324659-5 (2026-04-21). The outer size, 49 × 28 × 93 cm, is IKEA's published size. The cabinet’s size is IKEA’s; the panels’ thickness, the rails, the compartments’ size and their plastic sides’ shape, and where the pivots are, are read off the manual’s drawings, so they are close, not measured. The 3D runs faster than real hands do.
IKEA says it holds about 8 pairs of shoes.
The manufacturer's instructions are on IKEA's product page (PDF). If something here differs from the manual in your box, follow the manual.
The 3D models, drawings and text are our own. IKEA and BISSA are named only to say which product this guide is for.
