IKEA EKET cabinet with 4 compartments, 70×35×70 cm: interactive 3D assembly guide

Every step of assembling the IKEA EKET 4-cube cabinet, built in 3D. Press play to watch a step, drag to look around, or switch to Drawing to see it in clean black lines.

What is in the box

Eight panels: two outer side panels, a bottom panel, a top panel, a folded thin back panel, a central horizontal divider shelf and two vertical dividers (lower and upper). The hardware bag holds 12 wooden dowels (101345), 8 back panel clips (10093081), 8 clip wedges (10093082), 4 adjustable feet (107862), 2 wall fittings (141413), 2 screw plates (152651) and 2 screws (109049).

All 8 steps

  1. 1 Click the bottom and right side onto the left side

Stand the left side panel on its front edge with its rear groove facing up. Click the bottom panel’s left wedge dowels into the side’s bottom keyhole slots and press forward until they click, then fit the right side panel onto the other end of the bottom panel and press forward to form an open U-frame.

  2. 2 Fit the lower divider and central shelf

Push 2 wooden dowels (101345) into the middle of the bottom panel and seat the lower vertical divider onto them. Push 2 dowels into the top of the lower divider and 4 dowels into the mid-height holes inside both side panels, then slide the horizontal divider shelf down onto all 6 dowels.

  3. 3 Fit the upper vertical divider

Push 2 wooden dowels (101345) into the centre of the horizontal divider shelf, seat the upper vertical divider onto them, and push the remaining 2 dowels (101345) into its top end to complete the 2×2 interior divider grid.

  4. 4 Slide the folded back panel into the grooves

Unfold the thin back panel and slide it into the rear grooves of both side panels from the open top end, with its white finished face pointing down into the four compartments, until its lower edge seats in the bottom panel’s groove.

  5. 5 Click the top panel onto the sides and divider common mistake

Align the top panel over the back panel’s top edge, the 2 dowels in the upper vertical divider, and the top keyhole slots of both side panels. Press the top panel down onto the dowels and slide it forward until the wedge dowels click home. Common mistake: EKET’s ribbed wedge dowels lock tightly once clicked forward. If you click the top panel onto the sides before fitting the 2×2 cross-dividers on their dowels and sliding the back panel into the rear grooves, neither can enter and forcing the top panel back off chips the white foil.

  6. 6 Lock the back panel with clips and wedges

Square the cabinet, then push 8 back panel clips (10093081) into the pre-drilled holes just behind the back panel—2 along the top, 2 along the bottom and 2 down each side—and push a clip wedge (10093082) into each clip to lock it.

  7. 7 Screw in the four adjustable feet

Screw the 4 adjustable feet (107862) by hand all the way into the four corner inserts underneath the bottom panel.

  8. 8 Stand up, level and secure to the wall

Stand the cabinet upright on its feet and push the 2 wall fittings (141413) into the rear holes inside both sides just below the top. Move the cabinet against the wall, check it with a spirit level, and drive the 2 screws (109049) through the 2 screw plates (152651) at the upper back corners.

Questions

Do I need tools to assemble the EKET 4-compartment cabinet frame?

The outer frame and 2×2 interior divider grid go together without tools: the four outer panels click together on pre-mounted ribbed wedge dowels, the interior dividers join on 12 push-in wooden dowels (101345), and the back panel locks with 8 push-in clips (10093081) and wedges (10093082). You only need a screwdriver and spirit level when securing the cabinet to the wall.

Why must the 2×2 dividers and back panel go in before the top panel?

Because the central horizontal shelf and vertical dividers lock into dowel holes in the side, bottom and top panels while the back panel slides down the rear grooves, neither can be fitted once the top panel is clicked shut. Clicking the top panel on early forces you to pry the tight wedge-dowel joints back apart.

Which way round does the folded EKET back panel go?

Slide the back panel into the rear grooves with its smooth white finished side facing into the four compartments and the bare fibreboard side facing the wall.

Can the EKET 70×35×70 cm cabinet stand on the floor or hang on the wall?

Yes. For floor-standing use, screw the 4 included adjustable feet (107862) underneath the bottom panel, level the cabinet, and anchor the top corners to the wall with the included wall fittings (141413) and screw plates (152651). For wall-mounted suspension above the floor, IKEA sells the 70 cm EKET suspension rail separately.

Safety

Furniture that tips over can cause serious injury. Always secure the EKET cabinet to the wall using the included wall fittings and fixings suited to your wall.

About this guide

The part numbers and counts match IKEA's assembly instructions, so you can check each piece against your box. The outer size, 70 × 35 × 70 cm, is IKEA's published size. Panel thicknesses, rear groove setback and hole positions are our own estimates from IKEA’s assembly drawings. The 3D runs faster than real hands do.

IKEA gives a maximum load of 10 kg on the top panel and 7 kg per compartment.

The manufacturer's instructions are on IKEA's product page (PDF). If something here differs from the manual in your box, follow the manual.

The 3D models, drawings and text are our own. IKEA and EKET are named only to say which product this guide is for.
