Step 5 of 8

EKET 4-cube cabinet step 5 of 8: Click the top panel onto the sides and divider

Align the top panel over the back panel’s top edge, the 2 dowels in the upper vertical divider, and the top keyhole slots of both side panels. Press the top panel down onto the dowels and slide it forward until the wedge dowels click home.

Tools: none, just your hands

Common mistake: clicking the top panel on before the 2×2 dividers and back panel are inside. EKET’s ribbed wedge dowels lock tightly once clicked forward. If you click the top panel onto the sides before fitting the 2×2 cross-dividers on their dowels and sliding the back panel into the rear grooves, neither can enter and forcing the top panel back off chips the white foil. The switch in the player shows what goes wrong.

Questions

Do I need tools to assemble the EKET 4-compartment cabinet frame?

The outer frame and 2×2 interior divider grid go together without tools: the four outer panels click together on pre-mounted ribbed wedge dowels, the interior dividers join on 12 push-in wooden dowels (101345), and the back panel locks with 8 push-in clips (10093081) and wedges (10093082). You only need a screwdriver and spirit level when securing the cabinet to the wall.

Why must the 2×2 dividers and back panel go in before the top panel?

Because the central horizontal shelf and vertical dividers lock into dowel holes in the side, bottom and top panels while the back panel slides down the rear grooves, neither can be fitted once the top panel is clicked shut. Clicking the top panel on early forces you to pry the tight wedge-dowel joints back apart.

Which way round does the folded EKET back panel go?

Slide the back panel into the rear grooves with its smooth white finished side facing into the four compartments and the bare fibreboard side facing the wall.

Can the EKET 70×35×70 cm cabinet stand on the floor or hang on the wall?

Yes. For floor-standing use, screw the 4 included adjustable feet (107862) underneath the bottom panel, level the cabinet, and anchor the top corners to the wall with the included wall fittings (141413) and screw plates (152651). For wall-mounted suspension above the floor, IKEA sells the 70 cm EKET suspension rail separately.

Safety

Furniture that tips over can cause serious injury. Always secure the EKET cabinet to the wall using the included wall fittings and fixings suited to your wall.

About this guide

The part numbers and counts match IKEA's assembly instructions, so you can check each piece against your box. The outer size, 70 × 35 × 70 cm, is IKEA's published size. Panel thicknesses, rear groove setback and hole positions are our own estimates from IKEA’s assembly drawings. The 3D runs faster than real hands do.

IKEA gives a maximum load of 10 kg on the top panel and 7 kg per compartment.

The manufacturer's instructions are on IKEA's product page (PDF). If something here differs from the manual in your box, follow the manual.

The 3D models, drawings and text are our own. IKEA and EKET are named only to say which product this guide is for.
