IKEA KLEPPSTAD wardrobe with 3 doors, white, 117×55×176 cm: interactive 3D assembly guide
Every step of assembling the IKEA KLEPPSTAD wardrobe, built in 3D. Press play to watch a step, drag to look around, or switch to Drawing to see it in clean black lines.
What is in the box
Two outer sides, a vertical interior divider, a bottom panel, a top panel, a finished front plinth, a raw back support rail, two folded back panels, a wide top shelf and clothes rail for the left bay, three shelves for the right bay, and three doors with handles. The hardware bags hold 20 wooden dowels (101350), 12 cam bolts (118331), 12 cam locks (119081), 6 hinge mounting plates (109221) with 12 screws (113287), 30 back-panel nails (101201), 2 wall brackets (106989) with 2 screws (109041) and 4 washers (100823), 16 shelf supports (131372), 2 clothes-rail screws (108443), and 6 cup hinges (109338) with 12 screws (100365).
- Check the vertical divider orientation before locking it: its hinge-plate pilot holes must face the wide 2-door bay on the left.
- Always build and turn the 117×176 cm frame with two people and anchor both top brackets to the wall.
All 14 steps
- 1
Push in the 101350 dowels and divider cam bolts
Push 20 wooden dowels (101350) by hand into the ends of the bottom panel, top panel, vertical divider, front plinth and back support rail. Screw 4 cam bolts (118331) into the divider holes on the bottom and top panels.
- 2
Fit cam bolts and 109221 hinge plates on the sides and divider
With the left side, vertical divider and right side lying flat on the floor, screw 8 cam bolts (118331) into the outer sides and fasten 6 hinge mounting plates (109221) with 12 screws (113287): 2 plates per panel.
- 3
Fit and lock the vertical interior divider common mistake
Push the vertical divider onto the dowels and cam bolts of the bottom panel with its hinge mounting plates facing the wide left compartment. Insert 2 cam locks (119081) and turn them clockwise with a flat screwdriver. Common mistake: The vertical divider has pre-drilled pilot holes for the middle door’s 109221 hinge plates on its left face and three pairs of shelf-pin holes on its right face. If you flip the divider so the hinge holes face the narrow right compartment or the back, the middle door cannot hang.
- 4
Fit the top panel onto the vertical divider
Push the top panel onto the upper dowels and cam bolts of the vertical divider. Insert 2 cam locks (119081) into the upper holes of the divider and turn them clockwise until tight.
- 5
Fit and lock the left side panel
Push the left side panel onto the dowels of the bottom and top panels. Insert 4 cam locks (119081) into the bottom and top panels next to the left side and turn each clockwise.
- 6
Fit the front plinth and back support rail
Push the finished front plinth and the raw back support rail onto the lower dowels of the left side panel under the bottom panel, with the front plinth’s white foiled face facing out.
- 7
Fit and lock the right side panel
Push the right side panel onto the dowels and cam bolts of the plinths, bottom panel and top panel. Insert 4 cam locks (119081) underneath the bottom and top panels and turn them clockwise.
- 8
Roll onto the front and place the back panels
With two people, gently roll the frame onto its front. Lay the wide left back panel over the 2-door bay and the narrow right back panel over the 1-door bay so they meet along the centre of the vertical divider.
- 9
Square the frame and nail on the back panels
Check that the frame corners are square, then hammer 30 nails (101201) around both back panels: 6 along the bottom, 6 along the top, 6 down each outer side and 6 down the centre divider seam.
- 10
Stand the wardrobe up and anchor it to the wall
Tip the wardrobe upright with two people. Fasten both anti-tip wall brackets (106989) to the top panel with washers (100823) and screws (109041), move the wardrobe against the wall and anchor both brackets with wall screws and washers.
- 11
Insert the 131372 shelf supports and four shelves
Push 16 metal shelf supports (131372) into the pre-drilled holes (4 in the left bay and 12 in the right bay), then lower the wide top shelf and the three right-hand shelves onto their supports.
- 12
Mount the clothes rail under the left top shelf
Position the clothes rail between the left side and vertical divider below the top shelf, then drive 2 screws (108443) through its end brackets with a cross-head screwdriver.
- 13
Press the 109338 cup hinges into the three doors
Lay all three doors face down on the floor. Press 2 cup hinges (109338) into the 35 mm recesses of each door (6 hinges in all) and secure their wings with 12 screws (100365).
- 14
Clip on the three doors and fit the handles
Hold each door up to the wardrobe, hook its hinge arms onto the 109221 mounting plates and press until they click shut. Fit the three white handles onto the doors and fine-tune the 3-way hinge screws so all gaps sit parallel. Done.
Questions
Which way does the vertical interior divider go in the KLEPPSTAD 3-door wardrobe?
The vertical divider sits off-centre between the wide 2-door hanging bay on the left and the narrow 1-door shelving bay on the right. Its pre-drilled pilot holes for the two 109221 hinge mounting plates must face the wide left compartment near the front edge so the middle door can hang on it.
What hardware holds the KLEPPSTAD 3-door wardrobe together?
Twenty wooden dowels (101350), twelve cam bolts (118331), twelve cam locks (119081), thirty back-panel nails (101201), sixteen shelf supports (131372), two clothes-rail screws (108443), six cup hinges (109338) with twelve door screws (100365), six hinge mounting plates (109221) with twelve Euro screws (113287), and two wall brackets (106989) with washers (100823) and screws (109041).
How many shelves come with the IKEA KLEPPSTAD 3-door wardrobe 117×176 cm?
Four shelves are included in the box: one wide top shelf above the clothes rail in the left 2-door bay and three shelves in the right 1-door bay, all resting on sixteen metal shelf supports (131372).
Do I have to anchor the KLEPPSTAD wardrobe to the wall?
Yes. Opening all three hinged doors shifts the centre of gravity forward, so both 106989 top brackets must be anchored into wall studs or masonry plugs before loading the wardrobe.
Safety
Furniture that tips over can cause serious or fatal crushing injuries. Always anchor this KLEPPSTAD wardrobe to the wall using the two 106989 brackets in the box and wall plugs suited to your wall.
About this guide
The part numbers and counts match IKEA's assembly instructions, so you can check each piece against your box. The outer size, 117 × 55 × 176 cm, is IKEA's published size. Board thicknesses, compartment widths and hole coordinates are our own estimates from IKEA’s assembly drawings. The 3D runs faster than real hands do.
Includes 1 clothes rail and 4 interior shelves (1 wide top shelf on the left, 3 shelves on the right); extra KLEPPSTAD shelves can be added.
The manufacturer's instructions are on IKEA's product page (PDF). If something here differs from the manual in your box, follow the manual.
The 3D models, drawings and text are our own. IKEA and KLEPPSTAD are named only to say which product this guide is for.
