IKEA BESTÅ TV bench with doors, white, 120×40×38 cm: interactive 3D assembly guide

Every step of assembling the IKEA BESTÅ TV bench, built in 3D. Press play to watch a step, drag to look around, or switch to Drawing to see it in clean black lines.

What is in the box

A bottom panel, a top panel, two outer sides, a centre divider, two back panels, four support legs, two shelves and two doors. The hardware bags hold 4 leg mounting plates (104217), 20 plate screws (108443), 12 cam bolts (118331), 12 wooden dowels (101350), 12 cam locks (119081), 8 shelf supports (131372), 4 hinge mounting plates (109221) with 8 screws (113287), and 4 soft-close cup hinges (109338) with 8 screws (100365).

All 12 steps

  1. 1 Screw the 104217 leg mounting plates underneath

Lay the bottom panel upside down. Place a steel mounting plate (104217) over the 5 pilot holes at each corner and drive 5 screws (108443) through each plate: 20 screws in all.

  2. 2 Screw the four support legs into the plates

Thread the M8 stud of each support leg clockwise into the central socket of each 104217 mounting plate until hand-tight.

  3. 3 Prepare the bottom panel and hinge mounting plates

Set the bottom panel upright on its legs. Screw 6 cam bolts (118331) and push 6 dowels (101350) into its top face, then screw 4 hinge mounting plates (109221) with 8 screws (113287) onto the centre divider and right side.

  4. 4 Stand the sides and centre divider on the bottom

Stand the left side, the centre divider and the right side upright onto the cam bolts and dowels of the bottom panel, with the back panel grooves at the rear.

  5. 5 Lock the sides and push in top dowels

Insert 6 cam locks (119081) into the lower holes of the sides and centre divider and turn them clockwise with a flat screwdriver. Push 6 wooden dowels (101350) into the top edges.

  6. 6 Slide in the back panels and prepare the top

Slide the left and right back panels into the rear grooves, then screw 6 cam bolts (118331) into the underside of the top panel lying on the floor.

  7. 7 Lower the top panel onto the frame

Turn the top panel over and lower it onto the dowels, cam bolts and back panels of the outer sides and centre divider.

  8. 8 Lock the top panel with cam locks

Insert 6 cam locks (119081) into the upper holes of the sides and centre divider and turn each clockwise until tight.

  9. 9 Fit the 131372 shelf supports and shelves

Push 8 metal shelf supports (131372) into the side and divider holes (4 per bay), then slide both shelves in and seat them onto the supports.

  10. 10 Mount the soft-close cup hinges on the doors

Lay both doors face down. Press 2 soft-close cup hinges (109338) into the 35 mm recesses of each door and secure them with 8 screws (100365).

  11. 11 Clip the doors onto the mounting plates

Hold each door up to the bench, hook the front of each hinge arm onto its mounting plate (109221) and press the back of the arm until it clicks shut.

  12. 12 Adjust the 3-way soft-close hinges common mistake

Use a cross-head screwdriver on the 3 adjustment points of each hinge (109338): loosen the rear screw to set door depth in/out, loosen the top and bottom plate screws (113287) to level door height up/down, and turn the front cam screw to align the side-to-side gap between the doors. Done. Common mistake: Freshly clipped cup hinges almost always sit at factory mid-travel, leaving one door slightly lower or tilted so its top corner rubs the frame. Half a turn on the front lateral screw and a quick height reset on the mounting plate align both doors flush and level.

Questions

How do I adjust crooked BESTÅ doors on 3-way soft-close hinges?

Each hinge (109338) on mounting plate (109221) adjusts three ways with a cross-head screwdriver: turn the front screw to move the door left or right (side-to-side gap), loosen the top and bottom plate screws (113287) to slide the door up or down (height), and loosen the rear clamping screw to slide the door in or out (depth).

What mounting plate attaches the legs under the BESTÅ TV bench?

Four steel mounting plates (part 104217, 105 mm across with a central M8 thread) are screwed under the corners of the bottom panel using twenty 4.5 × 25 mm screws (part 108443), five per plate.

What cam fasteners hold the BESTÅ frame together?

Twelve cam bolts (118331), twelve wooden dowels (101350) and twelve cam locks (119081) join the outer sides and centre divider to the top and bottom panels.

How many shelf supports do the BESTÅ shelves use?

Eight metal shelf supports (131372), four per compartment shelf.

Safety

Place the TV bench on a level floor and adjust the feet so it stands steady under the weight of your television.

About this guide

The part numbers and counts match IKEA's assembly instructions, so you can check each piece against your box. The outer size, 120 × 40 × 38 cm, is IKEA's published size. Board thicknesses, leg plate positions and hinge coordinates are our own estimates from IKEA’s assembly drawings. The 3D runs faster than real hands do.

Top panel holds up to 50 kg; each interior shelf holds up to 20 kg.

The manufacturer's instructions are on IKEA's product page (PDF). If something here differs from the manual in your box, follow the manual.

The 3D models, drawings and text are our own. IKEA and BESTÅ are named only to say which product this guide is for.
