What is in the box
The top, the bottom, two sides, two dividers, six strips and two plinth strips; 36 dowels (101350), 8 long dowels (101354), 16 long screws (100229), 18 rails (120056), 18 short screws (100349) and a hex key (100006). You also need a cross-head screwdriver.
- Work on a rug or the flattened carton, as the manual shows, so the boards do not get scratched.
- The storage boxes are sold separately.
All 12 steps
- 1Join the middle strips to a divider common mistake
Stand a divider on its edge. Push 4 long dowels (101354) through its holes, 2 for each strip, and push the two middle strips onto them. Use the long dowels here: the manual crosses out the short ones. Common mistake: The long dowels (101354) go right through a divider: one end into the middle strip, the other out of the far face, where the outer strip goes on in step 4. The manual crosses out the short dowel (101350) here: it fills the hole but ends flush with the far face, and the outer strip then has nothing to hold it.
- 2Push the second divider on
Push 4 more long dowels into the middle strips’ free ends and push the second divider onto them, so the dowels come through it too.
- 3Set the dividers on the top
Lay the top flat, its holes up. Push 4 dowels (101350) into its holes and set the dividers on them, upside down, the middle strips at the bottom.
- 4Slide the outer strips onto the dowels
Slide the four outer strips along the top onto the long dowels that come through the dividers, front and back on both sides.
- 5Lay the bottom on
Push 4 dowels into the dividers’ edges, which now face up, and lay the bottom on them.
- 6Screw the bottom to the dividers
Fix the bottom to the dividers with 4 long screws (100229), turned in with the hex key (100006).
- 7Set the plinth strips on the bottom
Push 4 dowels into the bottom and set the two plinth strips on them, front and back.
- 8Push the left side on
Push 12 dowels into the ends of the top, the bottom, the plinth strips and the outer strips, and push the side onto them.
- 9Screw the left side
Fix the side with 6 long screws through it into the top and the bottom, with the hex key.
- 10Push the right side on
Push 12 dowels into the other ends and push the second side onto them.
- 11Screw the right side
Fix the second side with 6 long screws, with the hex key.
- 12Turn it over and screw in the rails
Turn the frame the right way up. Screw the 18 rails (120056) to the dividers and the inside of the sides, three on each face, each with a short screw (100349) and a cross-head screwdriver, at the heights your boxes need.

Questions
What tools do I need for the TROFAST frame?
The hex key (100006) in the box for the 16 long screws, and a cross-head screwdriver for the 18 screws that hold the rails.
Why are there long and short dowels?
The 8 long dowels (101354) go right through the dividers, joining the middle strips to the outer strips; the 36 short ones (101350) join the other boards. The manual crosses out a short dowel where a long one goes.
Why is the frame built upside down?
The manual builds it on its top: the dividers stand on it, the bottom and the plinth go on above, and the sides go on last. It is turned the right way up before the rails go in.
Are the storage boxes included?
No. The frame comes with its 18 guide rails; the TROFAST storage boxes and shelves are sold separately.
Safety
From IKEA’s product page: the frame comes with its guide rails; the storage boxes and shelves of the TROFAST series are sold separately. Wipe it clean with a damp cloth.
About this guide
The steps, the part numbers, the counts and the order come from IKEA's assembly manual AA-344735-4 (2016-06-28). The outer size, 99 × 44 × 56 cm, is IKEA's published size. The frame’s width, depth and height are IKEA’s; the boards’ thickness, the strips’ and the plinth’s height and where the holes are are read off the manual’s drawings, so they are close, not measured. The 3D runs faster than real hands do.
The manufacturer's instructions are on IKEA's product page (PDF). If something here differs from the manual in your box, follow the manual.
The 3D models, drawings and text are our own. IKEA and TROFAST are named only to say which product this guide is for.
