IKEA PLATSA wardrobe frame 80×55×180 cm: interactive 3D assembly guide
Every step of assembling the IKEA PLATSA 80×55×180, built in 3D. Press play to watch a step, drag to look around, or switch to Drawing to see it in clean black lines.
What is in the box
Two hollow-core side panels, a bottom panel, a top panel and a folded thin back panel, plus two HJÄLPA shelves. The hardware bag holds 8 back panel clips (10093081), 8 clip wedges (10093082), 4 adjustable feet (107862), 2 wall brackets (106989), 2 screws (109049), 4 washers (100823) and 8 shelf supports (131372).
- PLATSA panels click together without tools using pre-mounted ribbed wedge dowels: always check where the rear back-panel groove faces before clicking a panel home.
- Assemble the frame lying on its front edge on a rug or the flattened carton so the white foil stays clean.
All 9 steps
- 1
Click the bottom panel onto the left side
Stand the left side panel on its front edge, rear groove facing up. Align the ribbed wedge dowels on the left end of the bottom panel with the side’s keyhole slots, make sure the rear grooves line up, and press the bottom panel forward toward the floor until it clicks.
- 2
Click the right side panel on
Fit the keyhole slots at the foot of the right side panel over the wedge dowels on the other end of the bottom panel, rear groove facing up, and press it forward until it clicks into place.
- 3
Slide the back panel into the grooves
Slide the thin back panel into the rear grooves of both side panels from the open top end, with its white finished face pointing down into the wardrobe interior, until its lower edge seats all the way into the bottom panel’s groove.
- 4
Click the top panel onto both sides common mistake
Check that the top panel’s rear groove and clip holes are at the back over the top edge of the back panel. Push its wedge dowels into the top keyhole slots of both sides at once and press forward until both corners click. Common mistake: Because the ribbed wedge dowels fit into the side keyhole slots either way round, it is easy to click the top or bottom panel on reversed with its groove at the front. Always check that the groove and the two small clip holes face the rear before clicking the wedge dowels home.
- 5
Lock the back panel with clips and wedges
Square the frame, then push 8 back panel clips (10093081) into the pre-drilled holes just behind the back panel—2 in the top, 2 in the bottom and 2 down each side—and press a clip wedge (10093082) into each clip to lock it tight.
- 6
Screw in the four adjustable feet
Screw the 4 adjustable feet (107862) by hand into the four corner inserts underneath the bottom panel.
- 7
Stand up, level and anchor to the wall
Lift the PLATSA frame upright onto its feet and check it with a spirit level, turning the adjustable feet (107862) until level. Screw both wall brackets (106989) onto the top panel with washers (100823) and screws (109049), move the frame against the wall, and drive wall screws through washers (100823) into the wall.
- 8
Push in the shelf supports
Push 8 metal shelf supports (131372) by hand into the side hole rows at your chosen shelf heights: 4 supports per shelf, level front and back.
- 9
Place the two shelves inside
Lift each of the 2 HJÄLPA shelves into the wardrobe frame and lower its underside recesses onto the 4 shelf supports (131372).
Questions
Do I need tools to assemble the PLATSA frame itself?
No tools are needed for the four main frame panels or the back panel: the panels click together on pre-mounted ribbed wedge dowels and the back panel locks in place with 8 push-in plastic clips (10093081) and wedges (10093082). You only need screwdrivers for the wall-anchoring brackets.
Why won’t my PLATSA back panel clips fit at the back?
If the 10093081 clips have no holes behind the back panel, the top or bottom panel was clicked onto the side panels back-to-front with its groove facing the front. Disengage the panel by sliding it back toward the rear and turn it around so the groove and clip holes face the back.
How do you disassemble a PLATSA wedge-dowel joint?
Remove the 8 back-panel clip wedges (10093082) and clips (10093081) first, then tap or slide the top and bottom panels backward (toward the rear edge) to release the ribbed wedge dowels from the side keyhole slots.
Does PLATSA 80×55×180 need to be anchored to the wall?
Yes. Every floor-standing or stacked PLATSA wardrobe frame must be levelled on LÄTTHET feet (107862) and anchored to the wall with the two included 106989 top brackets and wall fixings suited to your wall.
Safety
Furniture that tips over can cause serious or fatal crushing injuries. Always anchor this 180 cm PLATSA frame to the wall using the included wall brackets and screws suited to your wall.
About this guide
The part numbers and counts match IKEA's assembly instructions, so you can check each piece against your box. The outer size, 80 × 55 × 180 cm, is IKEA's published size. Panel thicknesses, rear groove setback and hole positions are our own estimates from IKEA’s assembly drawings. The 3D runs faster than real hands do.
Includes LÄTTHET adjustable feet and two HJÄLPA interior shelves; can be stacked or combined with other PLATSA frames.
The manufacturer's instructions are on IKEA's product page (PDF). If something here differs from the manual in your box, follow the manual.
The 3D models, drawings and text are our own. IKEA and PLATSA are named only to say which product this guide is for.
