IKEA KIVIK loveseat, Tibbleby beige-grey: interactive 3D assembly guide

Every step of IKEA's KIVIK loveseat manual, built in 3D. Press play to watch a step, drag to look around, or switch to Drawing to see it in the manual's black-line style.

What is in the box

The seat frame, the back frame, two armrests, the cover, two armrest covers and four cushions with their covers; 4 carriage bolts (110019), 8 threaded rods (117175), 12 nuts (100712), 12 washers (100854), 4 feet (121236) and a box spanner (120202). No other tools are needed.

All 10 steps

  1. 1Bolt the back frame to the seat frame

Set the back frame behind the seat frame. Push 4 carriage bolts (110019) through the seat frame’s back rail into the back frame, and put a washer (100854) and a nut (100712) on each from inside the back, tightened with the box spanner (120202).

  2. 2Pull the cover over the frame

Pull the cover over the back and down over the seat, fold its corners neatly as the manual shows, and fasten its edges underneath.

  3. 3Pull the covers over the armrests

Pull a cover down over each armrest, tuck its edges in neatly and fasten it underneath.

  4. 4Screw the threaded rods into the armrests

Screw 4 threaded rods (117175) by hand into the inside face of each armrest: 8 in all.

  5. 5Put the armrests on

Push each armrest onto an end, its rods through the holes in the back frame’s end post. From inside the back, put a washer and a nut on each rod and tighten it with the box spanner.

  6. 6Screw on the feet

Turn the loveseat upside down onto a soft surface, screw a foot (121236) onto each corner by hand, and turn it back onto its feet.

  7. 7Put the seat cushions in their covers

Pull a cover over each seat cushion’s foam, fill out its corners, and close the zip.

  8. 8Lay the seat cushions on common mistake

Lay the seat cushions on the seat, their zips at the back and their crowned sides up, as the manual shows. Common mistake: The manual draws a seat cushion’s side, crowned on top, and crosses it out turned over. Laid upside down, the cushion rests on its curve, sits lower at the edges than the other one and its zip faces forward. Turn it so the flat side is down and the zip is at the back.

  9. 9Put the back cushions in their covers

Pull a cover over each back cushion’s filling, fill out its corners, and close the zip.

  10. 10Set the back cushions in place

Stand the back cushions on the seat cushions against the back, their zips at the bottom of their backs, and plump them into shape.

Questions

What tools do I need for the KIVIK loveseat?

None besides the box spanner (120202) in the box: it tightens the 12 nuts. The rods and the feet go on by hand.

How do the armrests attach?

Four threaded rods (117175) screw into each armrest’s inside face by hand; they go through the back frame’s end post, and a washer and a nut on each, from inside the back, hold the armrest on.

Which way up do the seat cushions go?

Crowned side up, zip at the back. The manual crosses out a seat cushion turned over.

Can I wash the covers?

Yes: IKEA says machine wash warm, separately, no bleach or tumble drying, and iron at medium heat.

Safety

From IKEA’s product page: the loveseat is tested and complies with the relevant strength and durability standards. The covers can be machine washed warm and ironed at medium heat (150 °C at most); do not bleach or tumble dry them.

About this guide

The steps, the part numbers, the counts and the order come from IKEA's assembly manual AA-2342501-1 (2022-03-30). The outer size, 190 × 95 × 83 cm, is IKEA's published size. The loveseat’s width, depth and height and the seat’s size are IKEA’s (in inches on its US page); the frames’ members, the armrests’ height, the cushions’ shapes and where the rods and feet sit are read off the manual’s drawings, so they are close, not measured. The upholstery is drawn as fitted covers, not as cloth. The 3D runs faster than real hands do.

IKEA bases its strength testing on use by people weighing up to 242 lb (110 kg).

The manufacturer's instructions are on IKEA's product page (PDF). If something here differs from the manual in your box, follow the manual.

The 3D models, drawings and text are our own. IKEA and KIVIK are named only to say which product this guide is for.
