The parts' sizes are our 3D model's own estimates: close, not measured. The frame’s and the baskets’ outer sizes, the hardware’s sizes, the 15 mm tube and the box weights are IKEA’s; the rails’ heights and shape, the stops, the baskets’ wire grid, where the wall brackets sit and the inner shapes of the brackets and spacers are our own estimates, so they are close, not measured. IKEA publishes only the outer size.

IKEA JONAXEL frame with 4 wire baskets, white, 50×51×70 cm: interactive 3D assembly guide
Every step of assembling the IKEA JONAXEL frame with wire baskets, built in 3D. Press play to watch a step, drag to look around, or switch to Drawing to see it in clean black lines.
What is in the box
Two side frames with their basket rails, two bottom bars, two top bars and, in boxes of their own, four wire baskets. The bag holds 4 adjustable feet (10003068), 2 wall brackets (10003467), 2 wall spacers (124461), 2 stacking clips (10004344) and the assembly tool (10004342). You need a hammer, a spirit level, a straight board to lay it on, and a screwdriver for the wall screws.
- Work on a rug or the flattened carton so the white coating is not scratched.
- The 2 stacking clips join a second frame stacked on this one. With one frame they stay in the bag.
All 7 steps
- 1
Tap the bottom bars onto the side frames
Stand the two side frames upside down on two pads, the end with a rail close to it down on the pads. Push the plugs of a bottom bar (the one with a square hole in each end cap) into the open post ends at the back, set the assembly tool (10004342) on each end and tap it with the hammer until the bar sits down on the posts. Do the same with the second bottom bar at the front.
- 2
Tap the top bars on
Turn the frame over so it stands on its bottom bars. Push the two top bars (with a small stub on each end cap) onto the open post ends, and tap each end home with the hammer over the assembly tool.
- 3
Screw in the 4 adjustable feet
Turn the frame upside down again, onto its top bars. Screw an adjustable foot (10003068) by hand into the hole in each end cap of the bottom bars.
- 4
Level the frame at the wall
Turn the frame the right way up onto its feet and stand it against the wall. Lay a straight board across the top rails and the spirit level on it, and turn the feet up or down until the bubble sits between the lines.
- 5
Click on the 2 wall brackets
The rails’ stops are at the front, so the brackets go on the back posts. Push a wall bracket (10003467) onto each back post just under the top rail, from inside the frame, until it clicks.
- 6
Fix the frame to the wall common mistake
The skirting board, here with a light strip above it, holds the frame about 10 mm off the wall, so a spacer goes behind each bracket. Slide a wall spacer (124461) sideways onto the back of each bracket, its large round opening towards the bracket, as for 10 mm (up to 3 mm, the brackets need none; for 15 mm, turn the spacers round). Then drive a wall screw with a round head, not a countersunk one, through each bracket and spacer into the wall, with a plug that suits your wall (neither is in the box). Common mistake: Furniture that tips over can cause serious or fatal crushing injuries. IKEA says a JONAXEL frame on feet, without castors, must be fixed to the wall with the 2 brackets in the box. Unfixed, a frame pulled at the top or climbed on tips forward. Drive a screw through each bracket into the wall, with plugs that suit your wall.
- 7
Slide in the 4 wire baskets common mistake
Start with the bottom pair of rails. Hold a wire basket a little up, lower its back end onto the rails just behind the stops, and push it in all the way. Then do the same with the other three, working up. Pull a basket out only as far as its stops. Common mistake: The stops near the front of the rails catch a basket’s back as it is pulled out. Lifted over them and pulled on, the basket comes off the rails at the back and falls, with whatever is in it. Pull a basket out only until it stops.
Questions
What tools do I need to assemble JONAXEL?
A hammer and a spirit level, a straight board to lay the level on across the top rails, and a screwdriver for the wall screws. The assembly tool (10004342) that takes the hammer’s blows on the bar ends is in the bag.
Which bars go at the bottom?
The two bars whose end caps have a square hole: the adjustable feet screw into those holes. The two with a small stub on each end cap go at the top, where a second frame would sit.
Why are there 2 clips (10004344) left over?
They join a second JONAXEL frame stacked on top of this one, round the two frames’ bars. With one frame they stay in the bag.
Do I need the wall spacers (124461)?
Only where a skirting board holds the frame off the wall. Up to 3 mm, screw the brackets to the wall alone; for about 10 or 15 mm, put a spacer behind each bracket, turned the right way round for that depth. Here the skirting board, with a light strip above it, holds the frame about 10 mm off the wall, so both spacers go on.
Do I have to fix JONAXEL to the wall?
Yes. IKEA says a frame used without castors, or with another frame on top of it, must be fixed to the wall with the 2 brackets in the box. The wall screws and plugs are not included: use ones that suit your wall.
How much can a JONAXEL wire basket hold?
IKEA gives a maximum load of 7 kg for each wire basket.
Safety
Furniture that tips over can cause serious or fatal crushing injuries. IKEA says a JONAXEL frame used without castors, or with a second frame on top of it, must be fixed to the wall with the 2 wall brackets in the box. Wall screws and plugs are not included: use ones that suit your wall, and ask a professional if you are not sure. Each wire basket holds up to 7 kg. For indoor use only.
About this guide
This is an independent 3D engineering guide modeled from physical hardware specifications and standard fastener part numbers so you can identify your pieces before building. The outer size, 50 × 51 × 70 cm, is IKEA's published size. The 3D runs faster than real hands do.
IKEA gives a maximum load of 7 kg for each wire basket.
The manufacturer's instructions are on IKEA's product page (PDF). If something here differs from the manual in your box, follow the manual.
